Safe Delivery – Sponsor A Car Seat!

On a rainy April day in 2008, a minivan carrying three orphanage staff members and a small child was driving 50 mph on an interstate highway in central China heading to the provincial capital. They were on their way to deliver a precious baby girl into the arms of her eagerly waiting parents. Suddenly, a front tire exploded and flattened, and the van rolled upside down, throwing the baby out of the window. Thankfully, she landed on a patch of grass and miraculously, besides scratches and bruises, she was fine.

I know the question you want to ask: Why wasn’t she in a car seat? The simple but astonishing answer is that orphanages do not have and therefore do not use car seats. In fact, very few Chinese families use a car seat to transport their own children. The majority of Chinese have never even heard of a car seat, even though most of the car seats sold around the world are made in China !

You can do something to stop another adoptive child from suffering a similar or very possible worse accident. In other words, you can help make sure the child who will be delivered to you someday will be arriving in your arms absolutely safe and unscratched.

We invite you to participate in the Safe Delivery – Sponsor A Car Seat! project by donating toward the purchase of car seats for orphanages.

There are about 350 Chinese orphanages involved in international adoption. Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase 1,000 car seats so that each orphanage will have at about three car seats. These car seats will be distributed by the China Center of Adoption Affairs to all orphanages on June 1, International Children’s Day.

We will purchase the following car seats from a manufacturer in Ningbo , China . The car seat we have selected  costs $65 each.

100% of your tax-deductible contribution will go toward purchasing a car seat. CCAI will cover all administrative costs, and the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA) will help with distribution. CCAA will also issue a safe-delivery rule to make sure the orphanages will use these car seats for all future delivery.

Throughout our history we have never solicited donations from our in-process adoptive families. However, this project is so special and so directly connected to you that we decided to go to you directly for support.
